We are currently looking for a Test Operator to join our team. The main responsibility of a Test Operator is to operate the testbed. Conduct day to day maintenance and ensure that the UUT is operating correctly and safely.


1. Responsibilities: 

  • The Operator is required to conduct the tests according to instructions detailed in the daily work instruction sheet (WIS or Pink)
    • Complete UUT / Cell Diary (Logbook)
    • Operate the testbed and conduct the Manual tests
    • Inform Test Engineer in case of breakdown
    • Ensure that the UUT is being operated in a safe and efficient manner
    • Mount and Dismount UUTs
    • Install additional sensors were requested
    • Install additional removable test equipment
    • Conduct Daily checks,
    • Conduct Weekly Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM)
    • Ensure the Test Bed is clean and tidy. (Required for TPM)
    • Handover during shift change (when in operation)
    • Fabricate fixtures and fittings were necessary
    • Performing Cleaning of testbed and test cell
  • Work:
    • Ensure that the testbed is operated correctly day to day
    • Must be sensitive to the running of equipment and able to detect when the equipment is starting to degrade
    • Cleanliness of the testbed and test cell
    • Weekly TPM covers the basic maintenance of UUT and Equipment
    • Ensuring floors are clean and all equipment is clean and maintained as if new painting if required, cleaning, repair where possible, visual inspection
  • Must learn how to operate the testbed and will be responsible for its operation during their working hours
  • Will write Work Instructions down for the operator who will follow them for the day, if anything is in doubt the Test Operator must ask the Engineer to clarify
  • Will also be required to ensure that all persons in the testbed area are wearing appropriate footwear or additional PPE when required
  • The changeover of the UUT is likely to be the most demanding task of the Test Operator
    This involves the movement of the next up UUT to the testbed and the subsequent demounting of the old UUT and mounting of the new UUT, the new UUT would then be able to run whilst the old UUT is removed from the testbed
  • Connection of HV, Plumbing, and operation of compressed air as well as maintenance activities are the domain of the Test Operator
  • should be able to create processes and procedures or improve existing ones where possible


2. Competencies:

  • Operation of Test Cells
  • Knowledge of different fittings and techniques for assembling plumbing, cables and other equipment.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation sensors
    • From K-Types to Voltage probes and Pressure transducers
    • Installation practices of installing sensors – Instructions will also be provided
  • Able to give advice to engineers on fabrication methods for building designs
  • Able to work out the best way to complete a task
  • Able to give input into process creation or create processes, procedures


    3. Skills:

    • Able to fabricate
      • Welding
      • Machining
      • Soldering
      • Knowledge of different fittings and techniques for assembling plumbing, cables and other equipment.
    • Computer proficiency
      • Able to use Microsoft Office
    • Automotive Systems
      • Able to operate AVL software
        • Training to be provided
      • Able to operate other Engineering software such as LABVIEW/DSPACE
      • Able to operate ECU Tools and CAN Devices through software such as those provided by ATI, VECTOR or INCA, e.g., CANalyzer, CANoe
